Beginning web development

When most people think about creating a web site they immediately think of WordPress. Whilst the majority of people and companies these days do use WordPress this isn't the only option.

For anyone with the knowledge to write the code themselves, or who wishes to learn, a text editor can be used to create all the necessary code and then upload it to your hosting provider.

Some people prefer to use sites such as SquareSpace, Wix or Weebly where they can purchase hosting and create the site in one place. These type of places involve dragging and dropping different sections in order to create the site you want.

There are other tools such as Webflow and Bootstrap Studio (to name just two) that make creating sites a little simpler than writing the code yourself whilst still giving you more freedom than the drag and drop providers do.

Another option, as mentioned in the first paragraph, is to use a Content Management System (CMS) such as Wordpress or Joomla to create your site. Most hosting providers make it easy to install these. Once installed all you have to do is choose a theme (how your site will look) and start writing posts (or articles).

One last option would also be to use something like Publii. This is an app you install on your computer that is designed to help you create blogs in a similar fashion to the CMS' listed above. However, Publii creates a static site that has many of the features of a true CMS but without a lot of the bloat.

If you think Publii could work for you more information can be found at https://getpublii.com/.
