Finding a good domain name
published on
Before creating your site you probably want to make sure you have a good domain name. Whether your site is for business or personal use the domain name will become part of it's brand.
Changing domains later will also affect any SEO score that you have already built up by that point. Ranking in search engines takes time and you don't want to lose this effort by making major changes such as to your domain name.
Where can I buy a domain name from?
In the past some domain registrars have been known to register domains that people search for before they buy the domain themselves. In order to avoid this from happening it is important to make sure you only choose domains from a reliable and honest registrar.
One way to avoid this is to search for the domain you are interested in using a WHOIS service. If the domain is taken you should see some information showing when it was purchased and when it will expire (if not renewed).
Another way is to use a domain name search engine such as domain.garden. This allows you to search for phrases or words that you would like in your domain and it will show you multiple available domains and what they will cost at multiple registrars. These may not always include all domains so if you don't find what you want you may need to try one of the other methods.
Yet another way is to use a reliable domain registrar. I have found the below registrars which do not appear to buy the domain before you can and then try to sell it to you for an increased price.
